Antibody tests

While there’s a lot of talk about antibody tests, they remain largely for research purposes at this point.

In contrast with a PCR test, the antibody test is a rapid blood test that determines whether someone has been infected with COVID-19 in the past, meaning their body has developed some antibodies from the virus.

There is no clear evidence about how long antibodies last in someone with a past infection and we don’t yet know if antibodies impact risk of getting infected again.

However, some providers and retailers are offering antibody tests.

Ralphs announced in October that it will offer rapid antibody tests at its pharmacy locations across Southern California for $25. Contact your local store for more information.

Some local clinics and urgent care centers also offer antibody testing.
